Tiny Web Contest

Back in 1999 when I was studying at at Chinese University of Hong Kong, I was so fascinated by the contest called The 5k. That’s the geek contest to create web page only with 5kb. It’s only 5kb!!

I kind of lost the name of the contest and just happened to find the link above now. It’s deprecated somehow, but its spirit is passed on to the modern version of it: 10kb Apart. The doubled size, but the outcome is hilarious. It’s modern and cool.

Back in millennium time, the page load is the key for “responsive” design. Thanks to the wide bandwidth, the size of page you load means almost nothing these days. However, you will still be amazed by how far people can do only with 5kb data.

The constraints always makes people create. Always.
